Coquitlam RCMP bring back the Junior Mountie Police Academy

Coquitlam RCMP’s Junior Mountie Police Academy is back after being cancelled since 2019 due to the pandemic.

Coquitlam RCMP is relaunching the Junior Mountie Police Academy this summer to connect youth with Police officers in a week-long, half-day summer camp. The camp is offered at no charge to residents of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore, Belcarra and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nations.

This active program teaches youth, ages 10 to 14 years old, about policing and involves numerous hands-on, educational activities. Youth will participate in:

Drills and marching instructed by an RCMP drill instructor
Physical training, including obstacle courses
Hands-on police sciences (ex. Fingerprinting)
Demonstrations (ex. police dog services)

The camp will run from July 15-19, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The camp ends with Coquitlam RCMP’s Show N’ Shine event on July 19, which showcases emergency responders and their equipment. The Show N’ Shine event is open to the public and does not require registration.

We are very excited to bring this program back to the community after a 5-year hiatus, said Media Relations Officer for Coquitlam RCMP, Corporal Alexa Hodgins. The Junior Mountie Police Academy is a great opportunity to build positive relationships between youth and law enforcement and provides an opportunity for youth to experience a bit of what police officers may do everyday.

Event Details:

Dates: July 15-19 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex at 633 Poirier Street in Coquitlam

To register a youth for the camp, please visit: Junior Mountie Police Academy application. Applications will be accepted until April 19, 2024 with selections being completed in early-May, 2024. All applicants will be notified if they have been accepted or not.
