Citizens' Crime Watch program information

Volunteering with Citizens’ Crime Watch is a great way to get actively involved in public safety. CCW volunteers serve as extra eyes and ears on the street supporting various Coquitlam RCMP crime prevention and enforcement projects and helping to enhance police visibility and connection to the community.

Applicants go through an RCMP security screening as well as an interview with current CCW volunteers and program coordinators to determine suitability. After successfully completing the screening process, new CCW members are trained by existing members to prepare for typical duties that include:

  • Patrols of crime hotspots to collect detailed information about suspicious, criminal or disorderly activity in areas identified as targets by the Coquitlam RCMP’s crime analysts. While on patrol, Crime Watch volunteers are equipped with radios that are linked to an operator in direct contact with the Coquitlam
  • Attending community events to help police with pedestrian control, visibility and community relations.
  • Supporting crime prevention and public safety initiatives.

In order to stay active in the program, all CCW members must work a minimum number of shifts as well as attending training sessions, special events and general membership meetings scheduled throughout the year.
