Kamloops police are turning to the public for help identifying a suspect in a flight from police, stolen vehicle investigation.
On Dec. 16, 2022, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers observed a possibly impaired driver in a North Shore drive thru. Police followed the vehicle – a dark 2017 Dodge Ram with headache rack -- onto Tranquille Road near Fortune Avenue and attempted a traffic stop, but it allegedly ran a red light and fled.
Officers located the vehicle again near Grasslands Boulevard, at which point it apparently ran a stop sign and accelerated towards a police vehicle, causing the officer to take evasive action to avoid a collision,
said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.
Later that morning, police received a report that the same vehicle had been stolen from the 200-block of Pemberton Terrace sometime after 6 p.m. on Dec. 15. On Dec. 21, the vehicle was located abandoned.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officers obtained surveillance footage from the drive-thru picturing a suspect that police are looking to identify,
added Cpl. Evelyn.
The suspect driver is described as Caucasian, 20-30 years old. He was wearing a red jacket and striped toque.
Anyone who recognizes the man or has surveillance, dash cam footage, or information related to the flight from police or stolen vehicle investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP are 250-828-3000.
