The West Shore RCMP receives many complaints from our local municipalities reporting loud vehicles and motorcycles on our streets.
This week, our Traffic Section will be out in the Western Communities enforcing Motor Vehicle Act/Regulations, with an extra ear out for noise violators.
We will be out looking for vehicles with defective or modified exhaust systems which increase the noise that a vehicle produces,
says Corporal Mike Jacobson with the West Shore RCMP Traffic Section.
What are the fines and violations?
- Noise from Motor Vehicles – $109 fine and two driver penalty points (Division 7A of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations)
- Equipment of Motor Vehicles – $109 fine (Section 219(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act)
- In addition to the violation tickets, Notice and Orders can be issued for the vehicle requiring that it pass an inspection within 30 days, or the immediate removal from the roadway until it passes an inspection at an approved facility at the owner’s cost.
If you have any questions about the level of noise on your vehicle, please contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 and ask to speak with an officer in the Traffic Section.
