Lytton, Lillooet

File # Lytton RCMP 2016-136

On March 9, 2016, a human skull was located just outside the village of Lytton. In April 2022, the remains were identified to be those of someone reported missing in 2005 from another policing jurisdiction.

DNA profiles for both the missing person in 2005, and the remains found in 2016 were entered into the BC Coroners Service DNA database. The DNA profiles were found to be a match. There were no aspects of these two cases that would have given investigators any indication that they were related. Criminality is not suspected in the case.

The identity of the missing person is not being released in order to respect the privacy of the family. There will be no further information released in that respect.

The successful resolution of these two historic cases demonstrate the importance of the partnership between the BC Coroners Service and all BC police agencies. This partnership ensures information for all missing person and unidentified human remains in BC is collected, compared, and retained; giving families a level of comfort that nothing will be overlooked in the search for their loved one.
