Witnesses sought in serious collision on Highway 3

On Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at approximately 9:15 AM Central Kootenay RCMP and Emergency Services responded to a head-on collision on Highway 3 at Gibbon Road East, just west of Salmo, BC.

Upon arrival it was determined that a westbound Ford Fiesta with two female occupants entered the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an eastbound Dodge pickup with a lone female driver. The driver of the Fiesta was seriously injured in the crash, while the passenger in the Fiesta and driver of the Dodge sustained non-life threatening injuries. All involved were taken to hospital.

Central Kootenay RCMP has assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance from BC Highway Patrol’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service. At this time the cause of the collision is not known and nothing has been ruled out.

Investigators are seeking witnesses to the collision, including anyone with dashboard camera video of the collision itself or any pre-collision driving of either vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to please contact Central Kootenay RCMP in Salmo at 250-357-2212.
