What’s the process for getting a police information check?
Police information checks (formerly called criminal record checks) are part of the application process for an increasing number of jobs and volunteer positions, especially if you're going to be in a position of authority or working with "vulnerable persons". A vulnerable person is defined in the Criminal Records Act as "a person who, because of their age, a disability or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent, is in a position of dependence on others; or otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by person in a position of authority or trust relative to them.
If you are a resident of Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam, here's what you need to know:
- You can only get a police information check (PIC) done by the police force in the community where you live. If you are not a resident of our jurisdiction we will not process your police information check.
- Police information check forms must be submitted in person either at our main detachment front counter or at one of our four Community Police Stations. Applications sent by mail or email will not be processed.
- Required forms. All police information check applicants have to fill out a PIC form. If the police information check is for a job or volunteer position involving vulnerable persons, applicants must also fill out the Vulnerable Sector portion of the PIC form.
